A new, 11-storey state-of-the-art building (pictured above) will be completed at Tanglin Trust School in 2022, providing a 50m swimming pool, physio and fitness facilities, gymnastics centre, music rooms, recital room, 18 additional pianos, and more.
A highlight of the Gate C project is an Olympic-sized, 50m swimming pool, which has a bulkhead that can be used to split the pool into two. The pool will be covered and has diving blocks, split-screen scoreboards and cameras, which the school’s Director of Aquatics Andrew Hailey says, “will separate us from other facilities on the island by a long way”.
This latest addition to the school’s existing 25m swimming pool means that students in the Junior and Senior schools can have lessons in the new pool at the same time; the 25m will be used by the Infant School for Learn to Swim lessons. Its 2m depth will also open up opportunities for aquatic sports such as water polo, underwater hockey and aerobics.
Tanglin’s Director of Sport and Methodology Richard Shuttleworth said:
“Currently, we would describe 80% of children at Tanglin as water confident; it’s our goal that, by 2023, 95-100% of children will be water confident and every child will be able to swim 25m by the age of eight.”
The Gate C development also includes a new gymnasium, athletic development gym, infant dining hall, parent cafe, and music recital hall.
