A Level results appeals are expected to rise this year with the news that the Edexcel exam board will release all A Level scripts on the same day the exam results are released.

The scripts will be available online between 17 August and the end of September.

Students who are unhappy with their results will be able to download their marked scripts and view their grading.

The service will also be available for GCSE students from next week's GCSE results day.

A spokesman for Pearson, the company which owns the Edexcel exam board, told the UK’s Telegraph: "With this summer seeing the first results under the reformed exams, we are supporting schools by offering two new services.

“Firstly, we are offering full, free online access to all exam scripts to all schools and colleges.”

“Secondly, we are trialling a paid for marking commentary service for GCSE and GCE English Language and Literature. This service will help teachers understand decisions in these subjects where marking is by its nature more subjective.”

According to the newspaper, school leaders believe the availability of the scripts will see a marked rise in grade appeals.

Education policy advisor at the Association of Teachers and Lecturers (ATL) Anne Heavey told the Telegraph, she would be "hugely surprised" if there is not an increase in appeals this summer.

"Teachers will want to make sure their students are getting the grades they deserve,"

She went on to add that “it is really positive that Pearson are increasing the transparency of their marking process, so teachers can make an informed judgement whether to appeal very quickly."
