OWIS: The IB Primary Years Programme is a framework that allows schools to teach children in a way that develops them as learners and as people. It is strongly focused on international-mindedness, collaboration and inter-cultural understanding. OWIS uses the PYP to develop its students into globally minded citizens.
The PYP focuses on conceptual learning through inquiry (as opposed to knowledge-acquisition based learning) where students can lead the direction of some of the learning, guided and assisted by the teacher. The PYP encourages active learning, open questions and is not didactic in any way. Students of the PYP are independent thinkers, who take responsibility for their own learning and for their actions as human beings.
GEMS: The Primary Years Programme is a curriculum framework which allows each school to build its own programme of inquiry. The strength of this framework is that it allows each school to differentiate the look, feel and overall experience within the classroom, depending on their individual context. Broadly speaking, the Primary Years Programme is an inquiry focused framework which is designed to be inclusive of the varying levels of student development. We believe that every child learns at a different pace and the Primary Years Programme curriculum framework allows students to develop proficiencies at different times and at their own pace.
