GEMS World Academy is the first and only school in Singapore to offer all four IB programmes. High school students have the choice of the IBDP or a more vocational pathway into the university through the IB Career-Related Programme (CP). Also, in addition to the MYP, middle school students sit IGCSE exams.
We like schools that offer both the DP and CP, as this allows students with a more entrepreneurial, vocational or practical orientation to follow a pathway that places more emphasis on applied learning, as opposed to academics. Of course, the key is the detail and what is offered and how.
There’s a strong focus on languages at GWA Singapore, with Mandarin, French, German and Spanish on the curriculum and after-school mother tongue classes; a broad sports programme that includes rugby 7s and swimming academies; and a pioneering arts programme that provides all primary students with a violin or cello.
What the school says: “At GEMS children learn to develop every facet of themselves, so they can shine in any part of the world. Our four core values are Global Citizenship, Pursuing Excellence, Growing by learning and Leading through innovation.”
