Hillside World Academy (HWA) is perhaps best known in Singapore for its dual language programme in English and Mandarin. HWA focuses on delivering a “Bilingual Bicultural education” and teaches the IB’s Primary Years Programme bilingually. Here’s a school where students from kindergarten through to Grade 6 are encouraged to switch between PuTongHua, Mandarin and English in the classroom.

HWA follows a bicultural system where half the teachers speak both English and Mandarin in all year groups. The school also runs a Beijing student exchange programme with its sister school. HWA is the first international branch of Beijing Huijia Private School, which has kindergartens and IB schools across China.

What the school says: “HWA is determined to share Chinese's roots, values, depth of the language and concept, integrated through the extended platform of IB, International Baccalaureate, Inquiry-based learning framework.”
