The International Montessori School is a non-profit, dual-language (English and Chinese) school for two to six year-olds.

The International Montessori School has carved a niche for itself in Hong Kong as one of the world’s leading Montessori dual-language schools. The school has pioneered an individually tailored Chinese curriculum based on Montessori’s multi-sensory and interactive approach.

Founded in 2002, the IMS has four campuses across the city-state, with a total student body of more than 900 children representing 40 different nationalities. It offers a very child-centred education to children aged 2 through to 12 years. The IMS Mid Levels campus is open to children aged 2 through to 6 years. It’s a small campus that is aptly described by the school as “cosy”.

IMS stays true to the principles of Montessori, an educational method developed more than 100 years ago by Maria Montessori. So, you can expect the following: children are given the freedom to choose their own activities, lessons use specially-designed, hands-on learning materials, no grading or testing, Montessori trained teachers, and focus on practical life, sensorial, language, and maths.

There’s another defining aspect to IMS: it is a dual language school, where “Chinese culture and language are integrated throughout every aspect of the child’s experience”. Every class is taken by one English-speaking teacher and one native-Mandarin speaking teacher, and at least one teacher is AMI-trained.

The IMS Mid Levels campus teaches foundation (ages 2 to 3) and Casa dei Bambini (ages 3 to 6); students can then move to IMS’ Stanley campus for a primary education up to age 12. Teaching at the early years level focuses on practical life, sensorial, language, maths, science, and cultural and social activities.
