Hong Kong Adventist Academy (HKAA) offers a Christian education that combines US, UK and Hong Kong curricula from kindergarten through to Grade 12.

Less than ten years old and still finding its feet, Hong Kong Adventist Academy (HKAA) is Hong Kong’s only Adventist private school. Opened in 2011, HKAA has a small and growing school community of around 200 students, and is popular with the Adventist community within Asia. There’s a large population of children from Korea, the US, and Japan, but around 40% of students come from Hong Kong. The majority of teachers come from North America and are “committed Christians”, with many of them living on campus.

Based on the campus of the Hong Kong Adventist College in Clearwater Bay, HKAA offers a combination of US, UK, and Hong Kong curricula, alongside a deeply-rooted religious education. At elementary level, HKAA follows the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) with added Chinese elements. In the middle school, teaching is based on a hybrid of the US Common Core Standards, the IPC, and Hong Kong’s Chinese and maths curriculum. At high school level, HKAA focuses on a very American-led curriculum in which students are awarded SAT scores and a GPA. Senior secondary students work towards graduating with a US high school diploma issued by the Griggs International Academy (GIA) in Maryland State. For students planning to study overseas, this diploma is recognised by universities across Europe and the US.

HKAA is affiliated with the Seventh-day Adventist Church, which has more than 8,000 schools worldwide. Religion plays a key role in any HKAA education; from bible stories and religion classes at elementary level to lessons in Christian values at middle and high school.

In the school’s own words,
“…values and beliefs of Christianity are not just tacked onto an academic programme – they are foundational and central to everything that happens within our school.”

HKAA is located within an attractive green campus with plenty of wide, open space. It offers boarding options for secondary students aged 12 and above, and it has around 140 spaces available on campus. School fees are low for international schools in Hong Kong, and they start at just HKD 95,000 per year for Grade 1. HKAA is a selective school, and all students are interviewed by a Chinese teacher and a homeroom teacher.

A full review will be posted shortly.
