Discovery Mind Primary School (Discovery Bay) offers a primary education with a close-knit community to families living in Lantau Island.

Founded in 1996, Discovery Mind Primary School (Discovery Bay) is part of a family of schools in Lantau Island that is focused on delivering a creative, personalised education.

The primary school integrates the National Curriculum for England with the International Primary Curriculum (IPC), as well as a comprehensive Putonghua programme. A typical day would balance numeracy and literacy in the morning with inquiry-led learning based on the IPC in the afternoons. The timetable also includes two weekly PE lessons.

The school says: “We strive to instill in our children a Worldly Perspective; we focus on nurturing the Creative Minds of our students; we ensure our children enjoy a Caring Environment as if they were at home; and we hope our graduates leave our school with a Happy Soul.”

The school group has play centres, kindergartens, and two primary schools spread across five campuses in Discovery Bay and Tung Chung on Lantau Island. With a total student body of 700, the school currently enrols children from 40 different nationalities.

The play centres offer a Tworiffics programme to children aged 15 months to 2 years, and a playgroup for 2 to 3-year-olds. The kindergartens for 2 to 5-year-olds offer the choice of an international or bilingual curriculum; students can complete Year 1 of primary in the play-based environment of a kindergarten before moving to one of DMPS’ two primary schools. The Discovery Bay campus enrols students from Year 2 to Year 4, and children are supported in the transition from one of DMPS’ kindergartens to here.

Its campus in one of Hong Kong’s greenest locations is described by the school as being “a natural ‘fit’ for the community we serve”. The school has an active house system, runs a range of after-school activities, and has student eco monitors who work towards making the school energy efficient. Annual tuition fees are HKD 101,850.
