Diocesan Boys' School is a top-performing Direct Subsidy Scheme (DSS) school for local and expat boys that combines local and international curricula to deliver a rigorous but well-rounded education.

The Diocesan Boys' School is a five-form entry, English-medium, all-through school for local and expat students that provides an education based on Christian principles. It’s a well-established all-boys school in Kowloon City that has been teaching the local curriculum for more than 140 years and, since 2010, has offered the IBDP.

Both the primary and secondary divisions of the school follow a unique curriculum that is based on the Hong Kong Examination Authority's curriculum, and all secondary students take the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education exams. Prior to studying the IBDP in Grades 11 – 12, DBS runs a Bridging Programme for Grade 10 students to prepare them for the rigorous diploma programme.

The Diocesan Boys' School is a Direct Subsidy Scheme (DSS) school, which means that it receives a subsidy from the government. The DSS scheme was introduced by the Education Bureau in 1991 to help improve the offering of private education in Hong Kong. DSS schools have the freedom to design their own curriculum and set their own school fees, but must focus on offering a curriculum that targets local students and prepares them for local examinations; some like DBS also offer the IB programme.

The school has a strong academic record, and its average IBDP score for the 2018 cohort of 53 students was a very high 41; it is also ranked eighth in the Hong Kong Outstanding Students Awards for academic, extra-curricular, and community service achievements.

School facilities on DBS’ large campus include track and field, swimming pool, tennis and basketball courts, gym, library, auditorium, hall, and multimedia centre. Boarding facilities are available on campus.

As with all DSS schools, fees at DBS are typically significantly cheaper than international schools, and it has its own admissions policy rather than following the government’s Primary One Admission system (POA) or Secondary School Places Allocation (SSPA) scheme. Fees start at HKD 94,512 (HKD 42,750 for Hong Kong locals) in the primary division.
