Christian Alliance International School (CAIS) offers an Alberta-based curriculum to its international student population, in a school environment that is grounded in Christian ethics.

Christian Alliance International School (CAIS) offers a Christian education from preparatory through to Grade 12 that is based on Canada’s Alberta curriculum. This all-through campus of 1,600 students opened in 2017 after receiving a grant from the Hong Kong Government to develop a plot of land in Butterfly Valley, Lai Chi Kok, Kowloon. Previously known as the Christian Alliance P.C. Lau Memorial International School, CAIS is committed to providing a Christian education that educates children intellectually and spiritually.

In the school’s own words,

“Our emphasis on the spiritual lives of students is a big part of what makes a CAIS education so special.”

From prep through to Grade 6, children study Chinese Studies, Christian ethics and chapel, English language arts, health, library, maths, music, PE, science, social studies, and visual arts. There’s a lot of talk about “purposeful play”, “interactive learning”, and “exploring their creative side” here.

At secondary level, teaching follows Canada’s Alberta curriculum and works towards the globally recognised Alberta high school diploma. The Alberta curriculum can be a draw for some parents with its very child-centred approach to learning and encouragement of independent thinking. The Alberta high school diploma is based on a credit system. To obtain the diploma, senior students must be awarded 100 credits. Students in Grades 11 – 12 can also opt to take Advanced Placement courses and broaden their university prospects by studying for the AP International Diploma. The school has recently been authorised (July 2020)  by the International Baccalaureate Organisation to deliver the IB Diploma Programme, which is being offered to students for the 2021-22 academic year.

Learning is enhanced with community service programmes, weekly chapel, spiritual retreats, extra-curricular activities in sport, STEM, the arts and the Bible, and secondary courses in Christian ethics and world religion.

The campus is currently being extended and new facilities, including a second gymnasium, rooftop football pitch, dance studio, music rooms, design studios, black box theatre, and indoor swimming pool, are due to open in late 2021.

A full review will be posted shortly.
