The Education Bureau (EDB) has announced that Yew Chung Yew Wah Education Network Limited, which runs international schools from kindergarten through to secondary in cities across the mainland and Hong Kong, has approval to open Hong Kong's first mainland curriculum school on an empty plot of land in Tin Shui Wai.
The group, which owns Yew Chung International School, was selected as the “most suitable applicant” for a private school with a mainland curriculum.
The school is expected to open for the 2026-27 academic year, and will offer about 900 mainland curriculum primary and secondary school places in phases. The majority of the students enrolled are expected to be non-local students.
A spokesman for the EDB said:
"With the vibrant development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and Hong Kong's commitment in promoting the interflow of talent with the Mainland and creating strong impetus for growth, it is expected the demand from Mainland families in Hong Kong for Mainland curriculum school places will rise. The establishment of a school offering Mainland curriculum will address such a demand in a timely manner."
