Australian International School Hong Kong (AISHK) is Hong Kong’s only school to offer the Australian curriculum, and more than 80% of the 1,100-strong student body at this all-through school are Australian or New Zealanders. College students have the choice of studying either the HSC or the IBDP at the school’s modern, purpose-built campus, which it moved to in 2001.
AISHK focuses as much on student happiness as it does on academic success, and there’s a strong focus on Positive Education, which combines the science of positive psychology with traditional teaching methods. The school teaches Mandarin to all primary students, and it offers a choice of Mandarin and French to secondary students; there’s a 1:1 laptop programme for every student from Years 3 to 11; the campus features two open-air, rooftop classrooms set within an Australian-themed garden; and the school runs an impressive programme of outdoor educational activities.
What the school says: “We want our students to lead happy, healthy, balanced lives. Their wellbeing is at the centre of all we do. Our Positive Education program complements the school’s academic focus while enabling students to develop character and confidence, celebrate excellence and to maintain meaningful and, often, lifelong friendships.”
