Education in Canada is the responsibility of individual provinces and districts, therefore standards and requirements vary considerably from province to province and district to district.
Formal education in Canada comprises three levels: elementary, secondary and higher education. Vocational training, adult education and special schools or classes (e.g. for gifted and handicapped children) also form part of the education programme in most provinces.
