Victoria Shanghai Academy

Bilingual programme: Chinese-English
Annual tuition fees: HKD 129,400
Age: Years 1-5
Highlights: Bilingual teaching for IB’s PYP, co-teaching by English and Chinese teacher

Victoria Shanghai Academy immerses pre-schoolers and primary students in a dual-language environment that gives young students an opportunity to become comfortable speaking two languages at an early age. Teaching follows the Primary Years Programme (PYP) and all students are co-taught by an English and Chinese teacher in Years 1-5.

After this, the language of instruction is English, with the exception of Chinese language and literature, and Chinese as additional language classes. As part of the school’s commitment to bilingual education, it nurtures a love of reading in both languages through the “careful selection of course texts, library programmes and award-winning visiting author workshops”.

The school says: “Language learning at VSA promotes international-mindedness and cultural awareness, and we are proud of the fact that all of our students will graduate from our school as bilingual and biliterate learners of Chinese (Putonghua) and English.”
