Chinese International School (CIS)

Bilingual programme: Chinese-English
Annual tuition fees: HKD 155,100 - 205,500
Age: Years 1-6
Highlights: Traditional full-form characters are used for Chinese, Year 10 academic programme in China

Chinese International School (CIS) offers a dual-language curriculum, which means that all primary students pursue a single programme taught in both Chinese (Mandarin) and English. Every class has an English and Chinese (Mandarin) teacher, equal time is devoted to the two languages, and much of the curriculum, which follows the International Baccalaureate programme, is delivered in both languages.

At secondary level, teaching is in English, and Chinese is mainly taught as a specialist subject area. To encourages bilingualism, though, here is a dual-language history programme (Years 7-9), a two-week China Experience Programme (Years 7-9) and a one-year academic and residential programme at CIS’ Hangzhou campus in China (Year 10).

The school says: “CIS takes pride in its innovative approach to the teaching of the Primary curriculum in English and Chinese (Mandarin). Students are then immersed in Chinese culture and language, while continuing their education in English within the framework of the internationally recognised IB Middle Years Programme (IBMYP)”.
