This not-for-profit school opened for kindergarten through to Grade 6 in 2016, and is adding one grade per year as the school grows. Eventually, this will be an all-through school with elementary, middle and high schools on one campus. While ASHK is very much in its infancy, it has already established itself as a forward-thinking school that focuses on innovation as part of its STEAM programme. Its holistic education also includes a rigorous daily Chinese language programme and a wide offering of extra-curricular activities.

Malvern College Hong Kong

Malvern College Hong Kong opened in 2018, a year after the opening of the Malvern College Pre-School Hong Kong, with a promise to offer “small class sizes, dedicated tutor time and a genuine concern for the individual”. Currently open from Year 1-9, there are plans to add on Years 10-13 and offer both IGCSEs and the IBDP. In addition to the clear academic focus of the school, the arts is an essential component of education at Malvern Hong Kong. Also, students participate in a mandatory chess programme for the development of higher-level critical thinking, and mandatory debate and public speaking for effective communication.

Mount Kelly School Hong Kong (MKSHK)

One of Hong Kong’s newest schools, Mount Kelly School Hong Kong (MKSHK) opened in 2018 to offer a British education to expat and local families. As well as having a strong focus on Chinese education, this standalone primary school prepares students for the Common Entrance exams in Years 7 and 8*. Parents can expect small class sizes, with an average of just 15 pupils per class; a mainly British team of teaching staff; and an extended school day that gives students time to focus on academia and extra-curricular activities.

* This will be especially important for parents wanting their children to enter selective private boarding schools in the United Kingdom.
