Having recently celebrated its 50th anniversary, Hong Kong International School (HKIS) is a well-established school in Hong Kong Island that follows a US-styled curriculum founded on Christian principles – and it will certainly appeal to anyone looking for an American college prep education. HKIS has two campuses, with the lower primary school being located in Repulse Bay, and the upper primary, middle and high schools in Tai Tam.

HKIS has a set of “student learning results” that focus on academic excellence, spirituality, character development, self-motivated learning, Chinese culture, and contributions to society. All students start the school day with an advisory or Pastoral Care Group (PCG). And, as part of the school’s commitment to hands-on experiences, students take part in the annual PEAK (Programmes of Extended Activities For Kids), which range from camping in Hong Kong to service trips in Cambodia. In addition to offering support for students with mild special learning difficulties, HSIK has two enrichment specialists who work with gifted students.

What the school says: “We encourage student achievement in an inspiring environment, and our programs reflect the rich multi-cultural and international character of our student body… HKIS offers a warm and inclusive learning environment for over 2,600 students of 40 nationalities and diverse religious backgrounds.”
