3rd Place. The New York University in Abu Dhabi
NYUD was established in October 2007 and is currently located in downtown Abu Dhabi, near the Corniche, until its permanent and vast new campus opens on Saadiyat island.
It is anticipated that the new campus will be ready by September 2014. NYUAD is one of the foreign branch universities that is accredited by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. It also has additional accreditation from the US-based Middle States Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.
Students can choose to take majors across faculties and graduate with a multidisciplinary degree.
The university is unique as it is one of the few institutions in the UAE to offer more arts based courses like Music, Arab crossroads and Social Research and Public Policy compared to most other institutions that tend to focus on business and financial based degrees.
NYUAD’s Theatre, Film and New Media and Visual Arts tend to be quite popular as such courses are not offered at other institutions. These courses and the works of the students are also constantly presented in the media.
The quality of work presented is often not only on par with students at the parent campus in New York, but also good enough to compete at many international film and art platforms.
