Most Recommended Schools in the UAE

14th Place: Nord Anglia (88%)

Nord Anglia has been operational for less than one year, but clearly it is doing a lot right. Just under 9 out of 10 parents would recommend the school, and not one if its parents told WhichSchoolAdvisor.com they would not - the remaining 1 in 10 were undecided, surprising only this figure is not higher given its few months of existence.

That said Nord Anglia feels it has been around for much longer. It has made itself part of the fabric of the Dubai education sector, and is held by many as a benchmark as to how to open a new school - it opened on time with, to all intents and purposes, all facilities fully functioning.

Two reasons suggest themselves to WhichSchoolAdvisor.com as to why the school feels more established than one year of operations suggest is possible. Firstly, it has a very strong Principal in Mike Embley who speaks regularly in the press and on radio on how to improve education in the UAE. The second reason is that Nord Anglia is very much about tradition, and respect - between students, between students and teachers, and between parents and the school. You get a strong sense of this in its school video. This is a school that has a very strong identity. Commitments in relation to standards and class sizes have been maintained since the opening and there is a strong sense of (a somewhat exclusive) community at the school with a coffee shop run by parents for parents and numerous activities for all outside of school hours.

Facilities are excellent with light, bright, classrooms and common areas, a very grand auditorium and a Lego Robotics room, extensive outside facilities including roof top swimming pools, sports fields and a fantastic outdoor play area including a pirate’s ship for the younger students. There is further land adjacent to the school which will offer a full grass rugby field in due course. Academically, the school offers all the core subjects of the UK curriculum and in addition, 6 different languages including Chinese. Nord Anglia is a recognised testing centre for Chinese language. The school will expand to year 10 in September 2015 with the start of the two year (I)GCSE programme, before continuing to Sixth Form in 2017 when it is expected to offer the IB Diploma programme.
