All staff, including the nurse, promote healthy lifestyles throughout the school, equipping children to make healthy choices. Parents are encouraged to promote healthy lifestyles through the promotion of healthy lunchboxes via coffee mornings and class blogs. The school works closely with Accruro the outside caterers to ensure their food meets our standards.

Which School Advisor: Physical education and sport is an important aspect of a healthy lifestyle. How does your school ensure children engage in physical activity? Please supply a link to this section in your website if you have one.
RDS has an outstanding Physical Education programme linked with the extensive facilities in the school: including a 25m pool and additional learner pool, indoor auditorium, tennis courts and astro turf. All age groups in the school have PE with trained and experienced PE specialist teachers.

Outstanding After School Activities extend learning outside of the school day.
E-sports provides outstanding opportunities for children to pursue a wide range of sports as part of the After School Activity programme.
Inter school sports provide excellent opportunities for children to compete in a range of sports.

The school promotes a healthy lifestyle with focus on healthy lunches, both from home and the school canteen, and the need for exercise and sleep. Parental engagement workshops are held to educate parents on the need for a healthy lifestyle

GEMS Royal Dubai School rules are implicit in the organisational policies and procedures operating within the school. In addition, pupils will work with their teachers to create a set of guidelines for their own class. This is to ensure that their classroom is a happy and effective learning environment for everybody.

The school climate and ethos are such that they take into consideration respect for the feelings and needs of others. Pupils soon recognise that for the school to operate effectively and function as a community there are unwritten rules and procedures which they must adhere to in order to facilitate the whole learning experience for all the pupils.

Which School Advisor: How does your school differentiate learning?
Assessment data and flexibility with elements of the timetable and collaborative planning time, provide teachers with the opportunity (and expectation) to effectively deploy support staff and resources (including ICT) to meet the needs of differentiated groups of children. The Achievement Centre staff work alongside year groups to provide quality enrichment (through the More Able Gifted & Talented program) and individual Education Programmes/ Individual Behaviour Plans/ Iindividual Learning Plans which enable all children to succeed. This is evident in FS through Emerging, Expected and Exceeding expectations notes which are taken daily.

Which School Advisor: Do you develop independent learning through homework and, if so, what are your recommendations regarding this, particularly time spent on homework?
Learning is an ongoing process that takes place both inside and outside of the classroom and school environment. Home learning provides opportunities for reflection on the work covered in class and allows for further development, research, consolidation and practice of the concepts introduced. It also allows the development of sound study habits.

• It encourages pupils to take responsibility for their own learning.
• It helps pupils to develop the skills they will need to become lifelong learners.
• It offers the opportunity for pupils to pursue aspects of their learning in greater
depth according to their own level of interest
• It gives parents the opportunity to see and share what their child is learning
currently, to make their own valued contribution and to help their child to develop or
practise skills.

All home learning is optional, at the discretion of parents. Many home learning activities will necessarily engage parents, for example through “talk tasks”.

Home learning should be enjoyable and satisfying and should not take up too much time. We would like to know if this is not the case!

Feedback is an ongoing process with students as part of the learning programme and this is reflected with parents who are kept up to date with what is happening in the class through a variety of communication tools including: verbally via the teacher through phone, face to face and e-mail and supplemented with newsletters, blogs, twitter, facebook, SMS, GEMS Learning Gateway learning portal and parent coffee mornings.

We offer support to a mopderate level within school, through our own staff and provision but also through bringing in outside professionals.

We have a More Able and Gifted & Talented leader in the school who tracks and supports opportunities for extension and celebration of children’s abilities and successes.

Yes it does

Within our staff we have staff with specific skills that are able to support specific needs. each case is dealt with on an individual needs basis and we place children that we have the skills to support and offer them the opportunity to be successful.

Parents can make an appointment to meet with our school Parent Relations Executive who will take them on a tour of the school at their convenience and answer and questions that they have relating to the school.

The GEMS Royal Dubai School offers a holistic education that extends beyond the English National Curriculum and the focus is on meeting the needs of each and every one of our learners so that they are equipped with the learning skills and life-long learning dispositions necessary to be able to accept and embrace the challenges of an ever changing world. This means equipping students with a wide range of traditional academic and technological skills and developing a range of learning dispositions and critical thinking skills that will promote creativity and solve problems.
